Summer Online Band - Remote Recording & Production Course I

Want to learn the tips & trick of recording solo, small ensemble or even full band recordings? 

In the Remote Recording & Production Course participants will work with professional audio/video editors to learn the basics of audio and video editing to produce quality band recordings, from small ensembles to full band pieces, and an introduction to the steps of production/final editing required to turn individual recordings into performances for remote viewing.

Focus will be placed on using free, publicly accessible online systems whenever possible.

Participants will: 

  • Learn how to get the best possible recording with the equipment they have.
  • Understand how to test and experiment different microphone placements for their instrument.
  • Understand the nuances that make quality recordings, including the best way to record themselves and how to successfully edit audio recordings.
  • Understand the basics of how to layer and edit audio using the software programs Adobe Audition and Reaper.
  • Understand what to listen for in rough mixes and be able to provide constructive feedback to fellow musicians.
  • Utilize basic editing techniques to help improve rough mixes.
  • Understand the finishing touches required to create a successful final product

The program will be delivered entirely online with one virtual class/session per week.  Running over only 4 weeks, the Remote Recording & Producing Course will connect participants through the learning process, will use sample recordings for training and provide an opportunity to assist in some compilation of the Performance Program participant's recordings. 

Weekly sessions will take place at 4:00 - 5:00pm on THURSDAYS starting the week of July 12.

Prerequisites for the course:

  • Have at least 2 years of experience in band
  • Have an interest in audio/video recording and online performance
  • Have access to suitable computer/laptop/tablet software to participate in online sessions and make use of free, publicly available AV programs.

Registrations cancelled before July 12 will receive a full refund.  Once the program has begun registrations are non-refundable.
