Saskatchewan Provincial Junior & Intermediate Honour Band Program

The SBA and SMEA partner to host the Saskatchewan Junior and Intermediate Honour Bands in both the South and North parts of the province to provide an enrichment experience for accomplished young musicians. Participants from grades 7 – 10 are nominated for the program by their Band Director.

The final make-up of each band takes into account Band Director recommendations, instrumentation mix and overall geographic diversity of participants to maximize program reach around the province. SBA coordinates and administers the South program and SMEA manages the North program. Each year SBA administers a South program that reaches 125 – 130 participants from over 25 communities with the event concluding each year in a concert for over 450 audience members.

Canadian Band Association National Youth Band Program

The National Youth Band of Canada (NYB) is the most comprehensive music education youth project offered by the Canadian Band Association. In 1978, 1991, and annually since 1994, the National Youth Band of Canada has provided an opportunity for the country's outstanding 16-22 year old musicians to gather for an enriching and inspiring musical and cultural experience. It is an outstanding opportunity to perform under the leadership of a renowned Canadian conductor and a Yamaha Canada Music Ltd. featured soloist. The NYB experience also provides each of these young musicians the chance to network with some of the finest instrumentalists from across Canada. The NYB is the premiere youth wind ensemble in Canada.

Every year band participants travel to a different Canadian province for one week of intense rehearsals and performances. Saskatchewan will host the event again in 2023 but planning and preparation will begin in 2021, including the hosting of the CBA fall business meeting to review logistics and plans.

Summer Band Camps

The Saskatchewan Band Association’s Summer Band Camp program is a long-standing, highly successful initiative for band students up to and including grade 12 graduates.

Camps are hosted in Regina, Saskatoon, Yorkton and at Kenosee Lake. Kenosee and Yorkton each host a camp for students from grades 6 – 9. Saskatoon and Regina Camps run camps suitable for band students from grades 6 – 12.

We also offer the Prairieland Jazz Camp for budding jazz enthusiasts from grades 6 - 12.  NO prior jazz experence required... just a willingness to try.

Band in the Park

The SBA is inviting band musicians of ALL ages to simply drop-in and join together to play some fan favorite music in the park! We have selected some fun music that will entertain musicians and anyone who might happen to be listening. This FREE event is open to band students and adult community band musicians.

To keep the event as simple as possible, participants are asked to bring their own chairs, music stands (if they have one) and instruments.

Prairieland Jazz Camp

Offered over 1 very full week in the summer, Jazz Camp participants learn from outstanding national level clinicians
