Online Programs

During the pandemic, the SBA has offered a variety of Online programs for band musicians of all ages, Band Directors and community band leaders.

Even as restrictions ease, SBA will continue to offer online programs to ensure easy accessibility for all, regardless of where you live!

Our Online Programs include:

Semi-Private Online Lessons:  SBA Clinician Bureau members provide instrument specific expertise tailored to each learner ... open to all ages.

Intro to Music Theory:  Designed to give young band musicians a deeper understanding of their music.

Composition Level 1 & Level 2:  Designed for budding young composers and delivered by Saskatchewan composer Paul Suchan.

Master Classes:  Our Master Classes are open to all and are delivered by instrument experts.  We often have national or even international special guest presenters.

In-Person Programs

As we emerge from the pandemic, SBA's in-person programming will also begin to resume. Every band musician will tell you  - the best part of band is playing... together!

Our In-Person Programs include:

Summer Band Camps: One of the BEST ways for youth to improve their musicianship & have fun.

Prairieland Jazz Camp:  Offered over 1 very full week in the summer, Jazz Camp participants learn from outstanding national level clinicians.

Junior Honour Band:  An exciting opportunity for dedicated grade 7 & 8 band students.

Intermediate Honour Band:  A fantastic developmental opportunity for grade 9 & 10 band students.

Specialty Programs

The SBA is always looking for new programs to serve bands and musicians around the province. Specialty/Limited programs could be planned for one-time delivery, or focus on a specific topic.

These programs will change regularly but can include:

Intro to Pep Band: This is a NEW program - piloting in the summer of 2021.  Pep Band music is fun, engaging and helps build community - at sporting events, in parks etc.

Instrument Maintenance & Care: In partnership with the NAC's Music Alive initiative, this online training is provided by SK's Kevin Junk.

Mazimizing Technology when Teaching Band:  Another great NAC Music Alive partnership program.  Participants join Arlene Shiplett for an interactive session focusing on how technology can enhance teaching - even post-pandemic.
