Summer Online Band - Performance Program

Looking for a chance to play your instrument with others and learn some new music?

In the Performance Program participants will practice their instrument skills while learning two new Concert Band pieces of music – one for a larger group and one ensemble piece – with the support of Clinicians via both Masterclass and Sectional style instruction.  Participants will receive basic instruction on how to effectively record their playing to support the compilation of a final “virtual concert” as a component of the program. 

Please note: this program will focus on Concert Band instrumentation and music.

Participants will: 

  • Learn how to get the best possible recording of their own performance with the equipment they have available
  • Learn how to follow a click track when practicing and recording to support the post-course production of a small “virtual concert”.
  • Be introduced to new pieces of music for both large and small band performance
  • Understand how small ensembles can help keep band interesting, improve skill development and provide community entertainment more easily during times of social isolation
  • Receive both Masterclass and Sectional support to develop their overall skill-set and to enhance performance of new music prior to recording
  • Gain experience in recording their own performance as part of an overall compilation.

The program will be delivered entirely online with one virtual class/session per week with the exception of week one, where there will be 2 sessions to get started.  Running over only 4 weeks, the Performance program will connect participants with other musicians and introduce new music.

Week One of the program will begin with a training session on the tips & tricks for making a good recording - all using freely accessible online software and basic computer devices.  This session will be delivered by two experts who are also offering the SBA's more in-depth Recording & Production Course. Performance Program participants will need this base level information to effectively record themselves for ultimate inclusion in the "virtual Concert". 

Weeks 2 - 4 will provide Sectional/small Ensemble style sessions to work on the music selected and to help prepare for recording. 

Regular weekly session will be between 11:00am - 1:30pm (depending on your instrument) on WEDNESDAYS beginning July 15

Registrations cancelled before July 12 will receive a full refund.  Once the program has begun registrations are non-refundable.
